In Loving Memory of Duane E. Meade

A Life of Faith, Service, and Hard Work

With a heavy heart, I share this message. Our hearts are heavy today as we announce the death of Duane E. Meade, age 88, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on March 22, 1937, northeast of Calumet, Duane lived a life defined by faith, family, and service to his community.

Duane grew up near Calumet, attending Corner Door School through the eighth grade before graduating from Calumet High School. Even as a young man, he demonstrated responsibility and dedication, driving the school bus while still a student. Raised on a hardworking family farm, Duane developed a strong work ethic that became the cornerstone of his life. After high school, Duane worked for horse trainers such as Babe Jones and Dale Robertson, before marrying the love of his life, Roxie Paulk, on November 30, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Calumet. Together, they built a home in the Calumet area and raised three daughters, creating a legacy of love and devotion that has endured for nearly 68 years.

Throughout his life, Duane held many occupations—working for the Rock Island Railroad, on oil rigs for Vierson & Cochran Drilling Co., and later becoming self-employed. Yet no matter his profession, farming remained his passion. He raised cattle, pigs, and horses, drilled water wells with Roxie, and tended to the land he cherished.Duane’s commitment to service extended beyond his family and farm. He served as volunteer fire chief and assistant fire chief, dedicated nearly 20 years to the Calumet School Board, and contributed to the Geary Nursing Home Board. He was also a proud member of the El Reno Wranglers and a long-time member of the Calumet First Christian Church, where he was baptized, served as a deacon, and sat on the board.

Known as a jack of all trades, Duane enjoyed building barns, houses, and cabinets. He loved spending time at the lake, water-skiing, and attending men’s retreats. His talents, generosity, and faith touched countless lives.Duane is survived by his beloved wife Roxie, his three daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandson, brothers, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, in-laws, and other cherished relatives.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calumet Volunteer Fire Department in Duane’s memory.

Rest in peace, Duane E. Meade. Your life was a blessing, your service an inspiration, and your memory will remain forever in our hearts.
